Cadence CNC
Machining is in my blood, explained Mark Coy, owner of Cadence-CNC. From age of 15 and through his college years, he was fortunate to work in several machine shops where he experienced the satisfying accomplishment of building something.
There is no better environment for bringing ideas to reality than machining.
Machining is not a means to an end; it's a series of enjoyable journeys with each part presenting its own unique challenges. Mark’s hands-on shop experience came to an end after he graduated from college and moved into a successful engineering career and later into manufacturing management.
However, through those years, he would often reflect on his job satisfaction as a machinist.
The opportunity to return came in 2019 — 35 years later — when Mark, along with a team of talented employees, expanded an existing machine shop in Logan, Utah. The plan was to provide tooling and prototype services in Northern Utah, specializing in fast turnaround times. One piece of equipment in that shop was an older 5-axis machine center capable of processing parts no larger than an 8" x 8" x 12" cube. That machine immediately attracted a half dozen production parts that ran well and more importantly came off the machine finished — a game changer that prompted a pause to rethink that production machining could and should be the core business model.
Today, Cadence CNC operates both a tool shop and a production machining cell, with the cell as the dominant force. This cell includes fifteen identical 5-axis machines arranged in close working proximity, operating three full shifts, 24 hours a day, 5 days a week. Any machine can run any of over 300 different parts, all of which are pre- engineered with process capability as a priority. Capacity constraints are easily resolved by adding identical machines and/or floor space.
